Gem raiders hit Bond Street shop

Thieves smashed into a jewellers on New Bond Street early this morning in an attempt to steal watches worth thousands of pounds.

The shop, Jura Watches, which stocks a selection of goods including limited collections by Porsche and Lacroix, was hit in an apparent "smash and grab" raid at midnight.

Police said watches worth thousands of pounds were taken in the raid, in which a glass door was smashed, and they were looking for four suspects.

Earlier this year a moped gang behind more than 70 raids in on jewellers in the West End were arrested by police.

The group had targeted shops in New Bond Street, Oxford Street and Knightsbridge.
