Genevive Johnson spoke in full for the first time about the loss of 19-year-old Edvin, who died after being stabbed in the leg in September.
He was the twentieth teenager to be killed in the capital this year.
Mrs Johnson described her son as "warm, generous, loving and kindhearted". She said: "He was the centre of my life and his death has left a big hole in my life. I am devastated and beside myself. I am totally lost without my son."
Edvin was about to set off for his first term at university when he was murdered. Mrs Johnson said: "One minute I was preparing Edvin for university, the next minute he was killed."
She appealed for information on the killers. "The people responsible need to be caught," she said. "Please help me find who did this."
Twenty-six teenagers have been murdered in London this year, with 17 stabbed, eight shot and one beaten to death.
Edvin was with a friend when he was attacked in Barnet House, Crawford Estate, Camberwell, on 16 September. He was found in the stairwell and taken to King's College Hospital where he died. Two 18-year-old males were arrested in connection with the murder and bailed pending enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 7321 9251.
