He and Matthew McConville had both been due to return to the UK after being questioned over the death of Macedonian Vladimir Chepulyoski, 67, during the annual millionaires' rally across Europe.
But as the men waited at Skopje airport, news came through that Mr Chepulyoski's wife, Margarita, had also died and police rearrested Mr Morley, 30, who is believed to have been driving the Porsche 911 when it hit the couple's Volkswagen Golf.
At their funeral in the town of Ohrid, the Chepulyoskis' daughter, Meri, a mother of two, broke down in tears and said: "I do not know how I will live now."
The 3,000-mile rally, which starts and finishes in London, attracts celebrities who pay £28,000 to drive their own sports cars between hotel checkpoints where parties are held.
One competitor spoke of his fears as tired racers were required to drive for up to 18 hours a day. Writer Piers Hernu said:
"It's exhausting because you are driving all day and then going to a party, getting up early and driving all day again."
"It felt dangerous this year. When you sign up there is a lot of emphasis on it not being a race.
"But with the length of the legs there is no way you could do it without breaking the speed limits. There is some crazy driving, with people squeezing between a lorry and a car at 100mph."
Macedonian police have been investigating whether Mr Morley and Mr McConville, both from Cheshire, were driving at dangerously high speeds at the time of Wednesday's crash.
Mr McConville, 32, has been released on bail. It is thought Mr Morley was first released on £17,000 bail but, following his rearrest, he may now be held in jail.
There was no answer at the £2million mansion he shares with his brother, Oliver.
A spokesman for the race said: "We once again extend our deepest sympathies to the Chepulyoski family and we are doing everything we can for them."
The rally was called off early as a mark of respect for the dead.
