Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin are building a two-storey extension to their north London home which will help make their property into a 33-room 'superhouse'.

Builders have begun work on transforming the house, which Martin bought from Kate Winslet in 2004.

They also bought the other half of the semi-detached home in 2007, and recently gained permission for the two-storey extension and a radical remodelling of the interior.Paltrow, 36, and Martin, 32, intend to have a gym, changing room, three bedrooms and a bathroom in the extension, while the existing properties will be knocked together to create 27 rooms.

There will be eight rooms on the lower ground floor, six on the upper ground, five on the first floor and eight on the second floor.
