Hammersmith ban from pubs and shops for yobs and drunks

10 February 2010
The names and photographs of offenders who have been barred from one business in Hammersmith will be circulated among neighbouring outlets under a "banned from one, banned from all" policy.
Those being targeted by the scheme, which is backed by police and the council, include drunks, petty thieves and those repeatedly caught committing anti-social acts.
The trial has begun in Hammersmith town centre and is to be rolled out across the borough.
Previous banning schemes have operated between bars but this is believed to be the first time such a scheme could be taken up by an entire borough and by shop owners.
Concentrating on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, pubwatch and shopwatch venues will inform each other of troublemakers via radios paid for by the council. The council's CCTV control room will also record images of repeat offenders.
Project manager Matthew John of HammersmithLondon, said: "We want to be able to share information that is not always passed onto the police."
