He dreamt it, she predicted it. Builder scoops £3m Lotto win after psychic's premonition

After 13 years of trying and with only £100 in winnings many would have forgiven Tony Nutbrown for giving up on the lottery a long time ago.

But on Saturday, when he walked to his local shop to pick up a lucky dip, he had more reason than most to feel confident.

Not only had he dreamt of winning the jackpot the night before but just hours later a mysterious psychic predicted the very same thing to his daughter.

And so, when the numbers 7, 16, 17, 23, 29, and 34 were drawn, he became one of four jackpot winners, winning a total of £3,038,567.

The 54-year-old father of four revealed the incredible series of events yesterday as he was presented with the massive cheque - and appealed for the woman to get in touch.

He said she visited his daughter's pet shop in Hull - more than 170 miles from his home in Carlisle - on Saturday morning and told her that someone in the family was going to win the lottery.

"Claire didn't tell me about it until after I had won, but even if she had, I don't think she would have believed her," he said.

"At the time this woman came in, Claire thought it was a very strange thing to say. She has been in before and Claire knows her by sight but not her name.

"She said this peculiar thing and then left without another word.

"Then, that night, I won the jackpot. It's either an incredible coincidence or this lady can see into the future."

He said he had phoned his 30-year-old daughter in a bid to get in touch with the mysterious psychic but had so far heard nothing.

"I hope she goes back in sometime, I would love to know how she knew," he added.

Claire, 30, said: "It’s freaky. This lady who comes in the shop tells us this and my dad wins the lottery.

"I don’t even know her name. All I know is she comes in the shop and buys wild bird seed and dog food.

"I wish she would come in and tell me the numbers for next week. That would be great."

Mr Nutbrown, a self-employed builder, plans to carry on working but has promised his partner Patricia Alderson, 54, that his days of heavy lifting are over.

They now intend to take a long holiday, buy a new house, and upgrade their eight-year-old Vauxhall Vectra to a luxury Jaguar XKRS.

But he claimed that the psychic's prediction was not the only indication that he might scoop the jackpot.

"I've played the lottery every week for the last 13 years but have never managed to win more than £100 before," he said.

"I always buy my ticket from my local Spar shop, just 50 yards from my house.

'Every week I go in on a Sunday morning and the usual drill is that the girl behind the counter checks the numbers and rips up the ticket.

"But for some reason this week I had a premonition that I was going to win something.

"When I went into the shop, I had a feeling of deja vu. I'd had a dream the night before where the girl in the shop couldn't pay out the money because it was so much."

He said that when he realised he had won the lottery he started to shake with shock and begged his partner, a nursing assistant, to check the ticket over and over again.

Mr Nutbrown added: "We are a very close family, and we plan to support everyone after our good luck. After working hard all our lives, this is a dream come true."

Patricia, a nursing assistant, said: "I've been suffering with rheumatism and had missed quite a lot of work recently. It was just last week that I went back to work full time.

"I won't be working for a living anymore but I will still go in on a voluntary basis. It is great that Tony does not have to do any physical work anymore.

"I used to worry that he would never be able to retire."

Simon Horne, spokesman for Camelot, said: "It is fantastic to create yet another millionaire. We are delighted for Tony and his family and we wish them all the best of luck for the future."
