Hero boy saves three friends

A 13-year-old boy was today praised by police for saving three friends trapped in a blaze above a restaurant. Dhanesh Patel, pictured left with fellow rescuer Rushi Godse, raised the alarm when fire broke out in Uxbridge Road, Hayes.

Two of his trapped friends crawled out of a window and hung from the ledge by their fingers. Dhanesh ran to fetch a ladder from his uncle's shop and brought the men to safety before firefighters rescued the third man.

Pc Dean Stimpson said: "Not only did he potentially save the lives of the occupants inside, he also saved serious injury by talking to the occupants as they were hanging from ledges."
