Honeytrap for beekeeper killer

An Australian beekeeper was jailed for life today for murdering a colleague so he could steal his honey worth £19,000.

Donald Alcock, 34, shot 41-year-old Anthony Knight in the back while he slept at his home in rural Queensland in 2007 and stole tubs of honey to sell.

He drove the containers to a honey distributor but while he unloaded them a 3,000lb tub fell from his truck and trapped him. Police spotted that markings on the honey tubs were Mr Knight's.

Alcock claimed he stole the honey because he was in financial trouble but pleaded not guilty to murder, saying he only meant to hurt his fellow beekeeper.

He told police: "If Tony was home I was going to have to maim him or hurt him bad if I was going to knock off the honey."
