Ian Brady 'shows no remorse' says lawyer, as grave of Moors victim remains mystery

'Unremorseful': Ian Brady

The lawyer representing the mother of the Moors Murderers' last missing victim has held secret meetings with Ian Brady, the Daily Mail can reveal.

David Kirwan saw Brady twice last year at Ashworth high security hospital, but failed to glean any concrete information.

Brady, 70, had offered to help Mr Kirwan's client Winnie Johnson end her search for the remains of her son Keith Bennett.

The 12-year-old vanished in Manchester in 1964, the third of Brady and his lover Myra Hindley's five victims.

Despite a renewed, top secret effort to find Keith's grave – revealed earlier this month by the Daily Mail – no trace of his body has been found.

Mr Kirwan arranged his visits after Brady wrote to Mrs Johnson in 2006 claiming to have 'clarity' about the whereabouts of the remains.

Despite being on a hunger strike since 1999 and being force-fed through his nose, Brady seemed healthy, the solicitor said.

He added: 'Brady would sit at 90 degrees to me, smoking a thin, cheroot-type cigar, feeding tube up his nose.

'During our meetings he could be rational, and at other times angry and irritated.'

Mr Kirwan – who was present at Chester Assizes in 1966 when Hindley and Brady were brought to court – said: 'Not once in our lengthy conversations did he make one single expression of remorse.'

He said he still believes Brady knows more about Keith's grave than he is letting on.
