Not-so-clever crook: Andrew Kellett
A man dubbed ‘Britain’s most brazen criminal’ has been slapped with an Asbo banning him from bragging about his crimes on YouTube.
A man dubbed ‘Britain’s dumbest criminal’ has been slapped with an Asbo banning him from showing his his crimes on YouTube.
Andrew Kellett, 23, who called himself ‘mrchimp2007’, became a laughing stock in May after he posted over 80 videos of his behaviour on the popular website.
He has now been banned from uploading movies of himself committing offences or bragging about them onto the video-sharing site for two years.
Until recently, Internet users have been able to view footage of the troublemaker taking part in a barrage of loutish anti-social behaviour and minor offences.
The videos showed dimwit Kellett:
- Refusing to pay a taxi driver the correct fare
- Being driven in a car in a dangerous manner at high speeds and racing other vehicles
- Videoing others using fireworks to create explosions in a wheelie bin and a microwave oven placed in the road
- Filming taking Class A and other controlled drugs
- Trespassing on a field and abusing the landowner when asked to leave.
Kellett, of Swarcliffe, West Yorkshire, even filmed himself receiving a suspended sentence at Leeds Magistrates Court before posting the video with the title 'mr chimp gets sentenced'.
In all of the offences involving cars, scallywag Kellett can be seen screaming abuse at the camera while his mates drive recklessly in fast cars like the Toyota Supra and Mitsubishi Evo.
Evidence: Kellett has posted over 80 videos of himself committing a range of crimes
The short clips have titles such as 'driving like a t**t', 'geroff mi land' and 'T5-R doin 140mph'.
One of the videos entitled 'Big Turners first day out of HMP' appears to show one gormless lag indulging in drugs on camera while he’s just been released from prison.
In commentary on one of the shocking videos he brags about a mate driving at speeds of 140mph.
In another he encourages his viewers to drink-drive at high speed, saying: ‘Remember kids, street racing is fun and even better when you are p****d.’ On Tuesday at Leeds Magistrates Court, District Judge Christopher Darnton slapped Kellett with a two-year ASBO after he admitted 18 of the incidents.
He was issued with an interim ASBO in May this year to stop him taking part in any more dangerous or anti-social acts while a full order was prepared.
Opposing the ASBO in May, Kellett claimed that the ASBO would potentially breach his human rights by restricting his right to free expression.
Asbo: Killett has also been banned from bragging about his exploits on YouTube
Cocky Kellett is now banned from behaving in a manner that causes or is likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to other people and taking part or encouraging others to take part in dangerous driving on private land in England and Wales without the consent of the owner or on public roads.
He is also prohibited from posting or being involved in posting any images or descriptions that encourage or glorify unlawful activities on the web.
Judge Darnton told the skinhead tearaway: ‘I am satisfied that you have acted in an antisocial manner which is likely to cause harassment or distress.’
Bill Message, for Kellett, who faces a five-year jail term if he breaches the ASBO, told the court: ‘This has been a difficult exercise for my client.’ Councillor Les Carter, executive board member responsible for community safety and chair of Safer Leeds, said: ‘Kellett must be in the running to be Britain's dumbest criminal.
‘By posting his offences on YouTube he could have been posting them straight to our Antisocial Behaviour Team.’ Most of the videos have now been removed from YouTube.
