'It’s like the guy’s a ghost': Police fear father faked new identities for himself and missing London 'Rockefeller girl'

Police hunting the mysterious Clark Rockefeller fear he has taken on a new identity to start a fresh life with the daughter he abducted.
Officers believe he had meticulously planned the abduction of his seven-year-old Reigh, who lives in London with her mother Sandra Boss.
They suspect he had obtained fake documents in new names for the pair.
Happier times: Clark Rockefeller carries his daughter Reigh Boss on his shoulders
They have been unable to find his last known address – even though he has met friends in Boston constantly over the past few months.
And they know he does not have a passport under the name Rockefeller – meaning he cannot travel abroad.
There was further intrigue in the baffling case yesterday when wealthy management consultant Ms Boss, who divorced Rockefeller 18 months ago, failed to appear at a news conference.
She had been expected to make a TV appeal to her ex-husband for Reigh’s safe return.
The abrupt cancellation left police and FBI agents scrabbling around trying to piece together Rockefeller’s last movements before he snatched Reigh five days ago during a supervised visit in Boston.
Ms Boss had flown to Boston with her daughter so the child could spend some time with her father.
No-show: Sandra Boss, pictured with her daughter Reigh Rockefeller, failed to turn up at a news conference to appeal for her safe return
Police chiefs will appeal for help on tomorrow night’s 'America’s Most Wanted' TV crime show.
Yesterday they admitted they could find absolutely no trace of Rockefeller's existence before the early 1990s and asked anyone recognising his photograph to come forward.
'It’s like the guy’s a ghost', a police source said.
'Clearly he had another alias before he decided to become a Rockefeller.
'And by the look of it, over the last few months he has reinvented himself again with another new name.
'We cannot find a trace of him as Rockefeller even renting a hotel room, let alone using a bank account.'
The modern art collector claimed to be a member of the mega-wealthy Rockefeller clan.
Missing: The FBI provided this undated photo of Reigh Boss, the daughter of Clark Rockefeller and Sandra Boss, who has been kidnapped by her father
But the real heirs to the dynasty say he is not related.
Police discovered he had used at least six other names.
And there is no record of his marriage to 41-year-old Ms Boss, who moved to Britain after her divorce to work for global consulting company McKinsey & Co’s London office.
The couple fought a bitter battle over Reigh, with both demanding sole custody.
Ms Boss, who said she feared Rockefeller would abduct Reigh, won the custody case but he was allowed supervised visits.
Rockefeller, who says he is 48, snatched Reigh away from a social worker on a quiet Boston street on Sunday afternoon, then got a friend to drive them to New York.
They were last seen at Manhattan’s Grand Central Station but since then there have been sightings of them across America.
Police believe he deliberately tried to throw them off the trail by telling friends he was planning to sail off on his 72-ft yacht Serenity to, variously, Bermuda, the Bahamas, South America or Alaska.
Mystery: It is unclear whether Clark Rockefeller owns this 72-foot catamaran
He said he’d bought the yacht using £150,000 worth of gold bullion.
But it was not clear last night if he even owned a boat or really dealt in gold.
Rockefeller has claimed to have attended prestigious Yale University but there was no record of him ever enrolling.
Ms Boss’s relatives confronted him about those claims shortly after the couple reportedly tied the knot on Nantucket Island, off the coast of Massachusetts, in 1994 after a whirlwind romance.
They moved from New York to Boston, where Ms Boss bought a £1.1 million townhouse in exclusive Back Bay.
A few years later she bought a 15-room country 'cottage' in Cornish, New Hampshire.
Rockefeller became a full time father, while Ms Boss worked.
Neighbours in Cornish say he lived like a wealthy squire, wearing a bow tie and zipping around on a Segway scooter.
Rockefeller did not have a social security number - something that everyone living in America needs to open bank accounts or obtain driving licences.
And there is no record of him attending schools or universities in the US.
Neighbours say he spoke with a slight European accent but one relative told the Mail: 'He’s American – or at least he said he was.
'Now we are questioning everything about him.'
