The system used some rather natty 3D glasses, and it's hard not to feel self conscious when you first don them. But as Keane walked on stage at Abbey Road, it immediately became apparent just how good 3D TV can be.
The incredible clarity of the high definition pictures is amazing. But it is the depth of field which really makes your jaw drop. In wide shots, the band look as if they are in front of you, and appear almost to move out of the TV.
When frontman Tom Chapman reached out towards the camera, most of the viewers instinctively moved backwards, so realistic was the effect. Some shots work better than others and Sky admits it is still learning exactly what works.
3D TV probably isn't something you would want to watch all day. But for gigs, films and the odd TV show, it's an incredible experience.
A tantalising glimpse into the near future - it could be in living rooms in months rather than years.
