Jamie Oliver trainee faces jail over £1m gem raid

Tom Baisden, who graduated from Oliver's Fifteen cooking programme and appeared in last year's show Jamie's Chef, originally claimed he had been attacked by the gang in the 2001 raid at Southend Airport's cargo centre. But the 26-year-old admitted to a court that he had lied to police and now faces going to prison.
Baisden, a former drug addict and small-time dealer, was chosen for the filming of Jamie's Chef to win the prize of running his own restaurant, The Cock Inn, but was beaten by Aaron Craze. Baisden was hoping to set up a catering business with another Fifteen graduate.
He told police he had been working alone in the warehouse, which stores imported goods, when thieves burst in and knocked him out. Two hours later he came round and raised the alarm.
Police discovered 2,000 Cartier watches and other pieces of jewellery worth more than £1 million had been stolen.
He was arrested this year and yesterday admitted theft, conspiracy to steal and perverting the course of justice at Chelmsford crown court.
On a website the chef described Oliver as his "life coach".
Baisden will be sentenced in October.
