Jigsaw murder: Man accused of dismembering body changes plea to guilty

A man today pleaded guilty to the "jigsaw" murder of Jeffrey Howe, whose body was dismembered and scattered across two counties.

Stephen Marshall, 38, changed his plea from not guilty in the third week of his trial, as the prosecution was about to close its case at St Albans crown court.

A few feet away in the dock sat his lover Sara Bush, 21, who denies murdering kitchen salesman Mr Howe, 49, at his Southgate flat last March.

Stuart Trimmer QC, prosecuting, said her position was a "matter that needs to be considered" and the jury was sent out of court.

Escort girl Bush, of Southgate, denies perverting the course of justice and obstructing a coroner in the execution of his duty. Marshall, of Borehamwood, pleaded guilty to these charges at the start of the trial.

The jury heard how the couple moved in with Mr Howe then plotted to take over the property, empty his bank account and sell his possessions.

It was claimed they stabbed him to death, chopped up his remains and scattered them across Hertfordshire before dumping his head in a field in Leicestershire.

The jury also heard claims that Marshall had dismembered bodies in the past. The case continues.
