Poll: David Cameron would have a substantial majority in the Commons
Labour has made a slight recovery in public popularity despite fears of a recession, a poll suggests.
Support for the Tories was down two points to 43 per cent, while Labour scored 28 per cent, up three points.
The Conservatives' 15-point lead would still be enough to give David Cameron a substantial majority in the Commons.
It is also the second highest Tory lead since pollsters ICM started in 1984.
The shift comes despite the fact that 80 per cent of people believe Britain will soon be in recession.
Sixty per cent are cutting spending and 61 per cent are worried about their finances, up from 43 per cent in April.
Britons were most likely to be saving by buying fewer clothes. Some 74 per cent of women are spending less on fashion.
Overall, 71 per cent of people are spending less on food, 70 per cent on petrol, 68 per cent on big home bills such as furniture, and 55 per cent on home improvements.
There is less confidence in how the Government manages the economy. The Tories lead Labour by 19 points as the party most likely to handle the economy well, compared to an 11-per-cent Labour lead last October.
