Lakes dredged as dairy farmer is held over wife who vanished

A dairy farmer whose wife vanished three weeks ago was yesterday arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Kate Prout, 55, was last seen on November 5 and was reported missing by her 45-year-old husband Adrian five days later. No body has been found.
The couple are said to have separated briefly during the summer, when Mrs Prout left the marital home.
Until his arrest yesterday, Mr Prout was staying with relatives while dozens of police scoured the land surrounding the couple's 200-acre farm at Redmarley D'Abitot, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
Lakes and ponds are being dredged and a digger has already been used to search tons of harvested grain in sheds on the site.
Locals saw tractors and trailers emptying the barn and also reported seeing officers searching through muck piles and nearby woodland.
Police told neighbours that Mrs Prout's keys, bank cards, passport and car were all found at the house.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "It must be stressed that no body has been found nor is there any direct evidence that she has come to harm and she may yet be found safe and well."
