Lawyer to figures of hate

The lawyer representing Gary Glitter as he returns to Britain is a business crime expert who often represents controversial figures.

David Corker is a regular feature on lists indexing the top 100 lawyers in Britain, writing pieces for journals commenting on the latest legal issues around white collar crime.

In 2000 he founded the firm Corker Binning.

The Oxford graduate has been described as having an "encyclopaedic knowledge of the law" and possessing a "charismatic personality - he is an excellent technical lawyer who can also be charming".

He does not shy away from working with "hate figures". He represented Michael Barrymore when the presenter faced a trial over the death of Stuart Lubbock who drowned at the star's home in 2001.

He also acted for Nadhmi Auchi, the Iraq-born billionaire who has faced accusations of links to Saddam Hussein's regime.

His firm approached "canoeist" fraudster Anne Darwin.
