Lawyer's killer has 'lenient' jail term increased

Delano Brown had been jailed for a minimum of 17 years for the knife attack on Mr ap Rhys Pryce last year.
He and his cousin Donnel Carty had stabbed Mr ap Rhys Pryce in the chest, face and thigh before leaving him to bleed to death in the street in Kensal Green, North London, near the house he shared with his fiancee.
But as Brown was under 18 at the time of the murder he received a shorter sentence than Carty, who had reached his 18th birthday and was jailed for 21 years.
The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips, ruled yesterday that even though Brown had been younger he was "equally culpable" and should serve a roughly similar jail term to Carty.
Sitting with two other High Court judges at the Court of Appeal, he said: "The small disparity in age between Carty and Brown should not be reflected in more than one year difference in the terms imposed on them.
"Particularly significant in our judgment is the fact that the knife was taken with the intention that it should be used."
