The Titanic star was over the moon last night after the Brazilian supermodel, 23, finally agreed.
The couple have been dating for three years but have had rocky patches. Friends blamed their often stormy relationship on DiCaprio's partying. One said: 'Leo and Gisele are often working on opposite sides of the world, so he goes out partying with his pals. That doesn't make for an easy relationship.
'Girls literally throw themselves at him and it hasn't always been easy for him to turn them down.' The friend also told a US magazine: 'Leo is ecstatic that Gisele has finally said yes.
He asked her two other times and she turned him down. 'Leo told me he wasn't going to give up because he knows Gisele is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. 'Leo has promised Gisele that his wandering eyes are things of the past.
His 29th birthday is coming up next month and he has convinced Gisele he wants to settle down.' Bundchen recently told an interviewer: 'Having a family is the most important thing to me.' A wedding date has yet to be set.
