Margherita Leggera (£7.95) versus classic Margherita (£5.75). The light pizza looked better, much lighter and fresher - and although the mozzarella was low fat it was still agreeably gooey. When you compare the two pizzas the classic Margherita seems rather unadventurous.

Vitabella (£8.25) versus Giardiniera (£7.95). Both these vegetarian pizzas looked good, the new one benefits from the appetising green salad. In terms of crust they were neck and neck. Gustosa (£8.75) versus La Reine (£7.55). In development the Gustosa has been a firm favourite with blokes and it teams prosciutto cotto ham with Portobello mushrooms. Both eat well, but the cheese on La Reine is slightly more self-indulgent.

The key is that these new pizzas look very good and if your conscience usually prods you into ordering pizza and a side salad the Leggeras will be the perfect choice. But if you like your pizzas heavy, wicked, sticky and cheesy the old style is still the best.
