A poll of readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine found the spas at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel and at the Dorchester were among the best 10 nationwide.
Agua at the Sanderson, Bliss London in Chelsea, the spa at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge and the Urban Retreat in Harrods also made the list.
The overall winner was Bamford Hay Barn in Gloucestershire, part of the Daylesford Organic group, which has a number of outlets in Chelsea, Westbourne Park and central London.
Although the treatments and ambience of London's top spas were highly rated compared with the rest of Britain, they fared less well when judged against the rest of the world.
Only the Mandarin Oriental made it on to a list of the best 26 spas, placed at number 19, with Bamford Hay Barn one place higher.
The best spa in the world was judged to be in the Maldives. ESPA at One & Only Reethi Rah is on a private atoll in the Indian Ocean and features thatched treatment pavilions built over the sea and beachside villas with glass walls.
It has two-person baths with stunning views over the ocean and a number of pools, saunas and outdoor showers, plus an amethyst steam room. The fifth annual Condé Nast Traveller's Readers' Spa Awards were announced at a ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental last night.
Magazine editor Sarah Miller said: "The awards are without question recognised by the industry as identifying the leaders in the field of luxury, service and surroundings."
The results are based on readers' votes for spa facilities and services, individual approach, ambience and decor, body and facial treatments, amenities and products, exercise programmes, cuisine and quality of service and staff.
The March issue of Condé Nast Traveller is on sale from Thursday.
