The news comes as the capital basked in temperatures topping 25C yesterday — higher than in parts of Spain.

It is set to reach 26C today, 6C higher than in Barcelona.

Kevin Hogg, forecaster for the Met Office, said: "London is experiencing a break from the downpours of the last week or so but we need to enjoy it while it lasts.

"Today will be hotter than average with lots of sun and tomorrow we should have another glorious day.

"Unfortunately from Wednesday things will start to cool down again and by the weekend we are looking at breezy weather with a few scattered
showers."

Temperatures could drop to 19C on Wednesday and 17C on Friday.
