Lord Foster's really wobbly bridge

The wobbly bridge is set to wobble like never before.

In a delightful acknowledgement of its nickname, Lord Foster and partners have recreated their Millennium Bridge in jelly.

It will be a highlight of a jelly banquet at the London Festival of Architecture.

The show has been organised by Sam Bompas, of Bompas and Parr, who curate culinary events and create fine jellies. They have also made one of St Paul's Cathedral for the display.

Ten shortlisted architectural jellies from more than 100 submissions will be displayed during an evening hosted by University College London on 4 July. They include other famous structures such as Nicholas Grimshaw's Eden project.

A winner will be named the "ultimate jelly architect" judged on criteria including innovation, aesthetics and wobble factor. Versions of the shortlisted structures will be available to eat and visitors can party to a "wobbling" soundtrack, accompanied by performers in jelly costumes.

Dr Andrea Sella, from UCL's chemistry department, said gels were amazing materials. She added: "Although their wobbliness, transparency and softness is one of the key attractions in cooking, materials chemists use gels to make interesting new ceramics."
