Madeleine's parents told of 'new clues' in hunt for missing daughter

Portuguese police have met with missing Madeleine McCann's parents to discuss new leads they are pursuing 'actively'.

More interviews with prime suspect Robert Murat are expected in the next few days as new evidence is looked at.

Due to strict secrecy laws Portuguese police impose on inquiries the McGanns were not able to reveal what they had been told after a two hour meeting with chief investigator Guilhermino Encarnacao.

Still hoping: Madeleine's parents Gerry and Kate McCann

However Gerry McCann, 39, said on his online blog that police were 'very active', with 'a lot of detective work going on behind the scenes'.

Murat has been the focus of investigations over the last 14 days.

More witnesses have told the police they saw the 33-year-old British expat hanging around the McCann's apartment on the night of Madeleine's disappearance.

Murat insists he has been made a scapegoat by the police.
