Man held over police shooting

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of two police officers after shots were fired near a packed Tube station.

The 20-year-old was arrested yesterday evening in Rotherhithe in connection with the shooting near Southwark station on 5 August. He was also arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a loaded firearm.

The two officers were on patrol when they spotted a man on a bicycle and gave chase. The man produced a gun and fired at least two shots at them. One officer hurt his leg as he dived for cover.
