Map is breath of fresh air

Londoners can now find their least polluted routes to and from work.

An online map, launched today, uses data from hundreds of pollution monitors across the capital.

By entering a start and finish postcode, users can choose between the most direct route and the least polluted one. The map's inventors say they hope it could be useful for people who suffer from respiratory diseases.

Jamie Wallace of walkit.com said: "Many people know that walking is often the smartest and healthiest way to get around central London but they also want to know more about the qualities of the route they take."

Each road's pollution level is used to give it a rating, allowing routes with the lowest exposure to be calculated.
