Marcus Wareing opens British brasserie

Marcus Wareing is to launch his second London restaurant in a former hotel coffee bar at St Pancras station.

The 120-seat "British brasserie", called The Gilbert Scott in honour of the architect of the 1873 railway masterpiece of high Victorian gothic, will open in February next year.

The two Michelin-starred chef, 40, said he wanted to create a dining room full of "hustle and bustle" that would help to bring a touch of West End glamour to a corner of London until recently associated with prostitution and crime. Wareing, whose restaurant at The Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge was recently named the third best in Britain, said: "It's about bringing a bit of Mayfair to an area of London that needs regeneration."

The restaurant will occupy the entrance hall and coffee room of the Midland Grand Hotel, which reopens as the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel on May 5 next year.
