Maths star Alexandra, 12, gets top mark

Taught by her father, Alexandra Evans, from Chipping Barnet, scored an A* in higher level maths GCSE aged 12.

Her top grade in what is widely seen as one of the toughest exams is a remarkable achievement for someone taking the course four years early.

Alexandra said: "I'm very pleased. I have been working really hard lately. I enjoyed my dad teaching me but he picked on me quite a lot and asked me all the questions."

She is a keen Chelsea fan and said she was thrilled that John Terry had been named the new England football captain.

"I may have an A*, but he is a star," she said. Alexandra studied with older teenagers at a Saturday class run by her father Richard Evans at Copland School in Wembley.

Dr Evans said schools should do more to help the brightest children develop their potential.

"I'm a maths teacher therefore I can push my daughter. But it shouldn't be like that," he said.
