Ed Balls
JUST two weeks after his eyepopping photocall with Andy Burnham at an adventure playground, the Schools Secretary was gettin' on down with the kids again today. Appearing alongside Ken Livingstone in Camberwell, Mr Balls underlined his own favourite topic of giving much more cash to youth services. Balls has spent months working with the Mayor on the issue, as well as on reading in schools, because he knows that Labour cannot possibly win a fourth term without all those London marginals. Sadly, unlike his stunt with Culture Secretary Mr Burnham, there was no rope swing in sight today.
CAMPAIGN CAPERS
In a move that would impress Boris Johnson, UKIP have hired an old Routemaster to hit the campaign trail. It has been painted bright purple and yesterday the top was filled with rather excitable campaigners wearing rosettes and shouting from a megaphone.
However the launch of the campaign for Gerard Batten for Mayor hit a glitch before it has even started.
In front of expectant media the driver struggled to make the turn onto College Green outside Parliament causing traffic jams and leaving tourists scratching their heads.
