David Cameron
The Tory leader is joining his mayoral candidate Boris Johnson in north London today for a final push. His presence is being interpreted as a show of confidence in the blond one's abilities, after years of excusing his gaffes with a shrug and a "Boris is Boris". After all, the result on 1 May could determine the course of national politics for years to come. If he wins and does well, it could prove to the electorate the Tories are ready for power. If he is a disaster, it could put voters off for another five years. Cameron has taken a gamble and will be hoping it pays off.
CAMPAIGN CAPERS
With Sky News carrying live pictures of the latest seal cull in Canada, Labour are keen to point out Boris's views on the practice. In an article in April 2004, Johnson wrote: "Of course, it must be a dreadful way to go, if you are a seal; and no one could seriously doubt that the method of killing is peculiarly brutal. But I put it to you nonetheless that the Canadian fisherman has as much right to go out clubbing as the average British 18-year-old." There goes the cuddly animal lovers' vote.
