'Green' theatre plan unveiled

Boris Johnson today launched an action plan to make London's theatres more environmentally friendly.

The "Green Theatre" plan outlines ways to reduce energy use in buildings.

It says the London theatre industry's annual 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions could be reduced by almost 60 per cent by 2025.

Suggestions include turning off stage lighting when not needed, energy efficient lighting and better insulation.

Successful case studies include a battery recycling scheme for theatres.

Mr Johnson said: "The power of the theatre industry to set an example in the fight against climate change is immense. I have been impressed with the commitment in the industry."
