Hooray Henley, cheer Tory MPs

Boris Johnson made a triumphant appearance in the House of Commons today when even Gordon Brown acknowledged his mayoral victory.

Tory MPs gave the new Mayor a hero's welcome, cheering loudly and waving their order papers as he arrived into the chamber for Prime Minister's Questions. Mr Johnson, who is also MP for Henley, was repeatedly the focus of attention as MPs on all sides referred to his election last week.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to Ken Livingstone's efforts in building low-cost homes in the capital and said: "I hope the new Mayor will continue the record of his predecessor in social housing and creating affordable housing."

Mr Johnson was "doughnutted" by women colleagues on the backbenches, with Putney MP Justine Greening and Upminster MP Angela Watkinson sitting on either side of him.
