Stars' trainer gets Boris fit for Olympics
09 February 2012
Despite being the capital's most famous cyclist, it is fair to say Boris Johnson has never been known for his athleticism.
But that could change as it emerged the Mayor has been working with a personal trainer to lose weight before the Olympics and "lead from the front" in his bid to encourage people to take up sport.
Jon Denoris, personal trainer to stars including singers Rachel Stevens and Estelle, has been working with the Mayor since October to get him in top shape for 2012.
The Mayor has been on 10-kilometre runs up to three times a week, cramming in up to 100 push-ups during the early-morning sessions.
The Mayor, who City Hall observers say has "looked much more sprightly in recent weeks", has now lost more than a stone as well as three inches off his waist-line.
It comes as Mr Johnson today launched a website that allows Londoners to find out where they can get involved in free sport near their homes. The launch is part of the Mayor's £35 million Sports Legacy programme, established to get more Londoners fit and active in the run up to the Games and beyond.
Mr Johnson was introduced to Mr Denoris, 41, through mutual friends. They go on 6am runs near Mr Johnson's north London home before his cycle to City Hall.
Mr Denoris told the Standard: "I was pretty surprised by just how focused he has been ... Since he started he's lost more than a stone in weight as well as a lot of body fat. He's been urging people to get into sport so I think he's been keen to be seen to be leading from the front in an Olympic year."
