What Mr Brown has to say about Ken

20 March 2008
After 20 years of talking, the agreement and go-ahead for Crossrail was only possible because of the partnership between a Labour government and a Labour London under Ken Livingstone.
After years of rising crime, Ken has delivered more police and is making neighbourhood policing a reality in every area. That is why with Ken, crime is down in London.
After years of underinvestment, it was Ken's commitment and leadership that has transformed London's buses and transport system, and time and again he has shown he has the competence to get things done for London.
He showed that same leadership when working with Tony Blair and Tessa Jowell to deliver the Olympics for London and for Britain. Because he understands London, his thirdterm priorities are the priorities of families across London - more police, more affordable housing, better transport and making London cleaner and greener.
London is faced with a big choice. A world-class city like London needs a mayor who is committed to London, is serious about running London, and is competent to get things done for London.
Being mayor of our country's capital city is a vital job, and Londoners face a vital choice.
The mayor is responsible for protecting security and cutting crime, for running the transport network, for delivering major projects like the Olympics and Crossrail, and standing up for jobs and investment in London.
The mayor matters. That is why the vital choice for London - the only choice for London - must be Ken Livingstone.
