Met credit card 'used in sex shop'

An anti-terror detective used a Met police credit card for personal spending - including five items in a sex shop, a court heard today.

Dc Matthew Washington, 37, used the AmEx card given to him for work-related travel and subsistence costs to buy more than £12,000 of unauthorised purchases, it is alleged. As well as the items from a Soho sex shop, Washington, who worked for the Met's SO15 branch on "high-profile investigations", bought clothes, holidays to Euro Disney and food, Southwark crown court heard.

Stephen Winberg, prosecuting, said divorced Washington used the card in "complete disregard" of regulations.

Washington denies misconduct in a public office between 1 July 2006 and 5 October 2007. The trial continues.
