An international hunt was launched for Ian Griffin when his wealthy lover Kinga Legg was found dead in a bath at the Bristol hotel.
The fugitive 39-year-old playboy, a former male model, was thought to have raced to the south of France to avoid arrest. There were also reports he had been spotted at a marina in Surrey where the couple had a boat.
He was found hiding in a tent in woodlands only a couple of miles from a £3.9million home where he once lived in Knutsford and arrested.
He now faces being extradited to France where detectives are waiting to interview him about the death of the 36-year-old Polish-born businesswoman.
Police would not reveal how Griffin was traced but there have been reported sightings of him and it is thought his credit cards were being traced.
Griffin has claimed that Miss Legg attacked him with a stun gun disguised as a lipstick. He admitted to friends they had a "massive fight" on the night she died but insisted he had acted in self-defence.
He called ex-girlfriend Tracy Baker to give an emotional account of his version of the events leading up to her death.
It has been reported that he planned to marry Miss Legg but was accused of cheating on her with Miss Baker.
Miss Legg checked into a £1,000-a-night suite at the Bristol alone and was joined by Griffin the next day.
It is claimed she had already bought the stun gun and attacked Griffin after drinking large quantities of champagne during a row sparked by his infidelities.
He left in his Porsche sports car and her body was found by a maid only hours later.
A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of Kinga Legg in Paris on 25 May.
"The man was arrested in woodland in the area of Chelford in Macclesfield."
Griffin built a string of businesses in the North-West but it has been reported he was declared bankrupt in 2006.
