The 56-year-old woman was already on bail and awaiting trial for an earlier attempt to kill the 22-year-old. Francis Anne Inglis was arrested by detectives after they were called on Friday to a specialist head injuries recuperation unit, where they found the body of Thomas Inglis.
He was certified dead by a police surgeon and his mother was arrested on suspicion of his murder. Mr Inglis had been a patient at The Gardens neurological rehabilitation unit in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, after suffering a serious head injury in a road accident near his home in Dagenham, Essex, in September last year.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Mr Inglis's body and police are awaiting the results of toxicology reports to establish the exact cause of death.
Mrs Inglis was due to appear at Hatfield magistrates'court today.
