Mother of teen murder victim warns: They will kill again

Adam Regis, 15, was stabbed to death in Beckton as he walked home after a trip to the cinema with his girlfriend more than two years ago in March 2007.

The teenager, a nephew of former Olympic sprinter John Regis, was stabbed with an eight-inch blade which went through his arm and pierced his heart.

Two 18-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder in December last year were yesterday released with no further action.

Despite a £20,000 reward being offered for information leading to the prosecution of the killers and 17 arrests in total, no one has ever been charged.

Speaking to the Standard from her home in Newham, Adam's distraught mother Kristina Cesar, 44, described her two years of torment and called on people in the community to finally come forward with information.

She said: "I can't understand what kind of human could kill someone and then, two years on, eat, sleep and just carry on normally. The people who did this don't understand that they not only killed their victim, they killed an entire family. I believe a lot of people know what happened. I would just ask for anyone who knows anything to help catch these people."

Ms Cesar said that she believes the people who murdered her son will kill again if they are not brought to justice. "If someone doesn't come forward, the killings will never stop. The people who did this believe they have got away with killing Adam and I am sure they will kill again. It makes me so sad to think another innocent child will die just because nobody will come forward.

"There is nothing that will bring back my son, but it would make me so happy to see the people caught so they couldn't put another family through this. I have not given up hope that they be caught, but I try to put it out of my mind or it will destroy me."

Ms Cesar said Adam's eight-year-old brother DJ, and 14-year-old sister Natalie are still struggling to come to terms with his death.

"DJ is still very scared and refuses to sleep by himself. He looked up to Adam so much. I'm terrified of letting Natalie go outside. Adam's murder has made me scared of society. I can't even walk past the place where he was killed. It just brings back too many terrible memories."

Police believe it was an unprovoked attack and said today they still do not know why he was killed.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Clayman from the homicide and serious crime command, said: "Normally there are people with the confidence to come to us with information, but people have not come forward.

"We still do not know what the real motive for the killing was. Of the five people who did this, we know at least two are Asian. There are lots of people on our radar and names have been bandied about in the community. Now we are just asking for someone to be brave enough to speak to us and give us the last piece of the jigsaw."
