'Motorcyclist is outstandingly good': Brunstrom's shocking email to his PR team

In an email to the head of press, Bethan Jones Parry, Mr Brunstrom said: "Dear all. We seem to have lost the plot somewhat.

"Too many repetitive pictures, not enough content and not enough numbers. We have the UK press here tomorrow – we are going to have to be much sharper than this – and time is now short.

"The presentation is supposed to run something like this: This is not a game. Real death & injury. We must have better slides than the suicide. Not enough. Not gruesome enough. Motorcyclist is outstandingly good."

Mr Brunstrom has courted controversy with his maverick views on the legalisation of drugs and his unrelenting war on speeding motorists.

He described heroin as 'not very, very, very dangerous' and he personally endorsed a needle vending machine for drugs addicts in Colwyn Bay.

He once used the word 'queer' to refer to activities by homosexuals in public lavatories – escaping punishment by apologising for the 'inappropriate' word.

In 2001 the force spent £4,000 investigating 'anti-Welsh' comments by The Weakest Link host Anne Robinson.

Mr Brunstrom also defied Crown Prosecution Service advice by investigating claims that Tony Blair shouted 'f****** Welsh' after Labour's poor performance in the 1999 Welsh Assembly election.
