New appeal over station knife robber

POLICE today appealed to commuters to help trace the man responsible for robbing a number of lone women at knifepoint.

He is considered so dangerous the British Transport Police have re-issued this picture of a suspect and desperately want help in identifying him.

He is white, of slim build, about 6ft tall and with brown hair.

Most of the attacks were carried out at North Dulwich and East Dulwich stations.

Detective Constable Dan Arundel of BTP robbery squad said there had been a year-long hunt for the man but despite several promising leads they had been unable to trace him. He said the attacker had been linked to "at least" seven robberies between March and November 2007.

"Several were at knifepoint and handbags were stolen in each case," said DC Arundel.

"His victims were mostly in their mid- 30s to mid-40s. His eldest victim was a 75-year-old woman. This was a terrifying ordeal for these women and we owe it to them to track the culprit."

He added: "We are re-issuing our appeal and the image in the hope that members of the public may know him. Maybe he has moved into your street or maybe he has recently started working for you."

DC Arundel said although the offence was very rare officers "won't rest until we have made an arrest."

Anyone who recognises the man, or who can help in any way, should call the witness appeal line on 0207 391 5275.
