Nineteen people injured as motorists hit the road the day after the hottest day of the year

Nineteen people were injured in a collision between a coach and a car today and three of the casualties are believed to be seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.20am following reports of a collision between a single-decker coach and a car near Penrith.
The crash happened on the A66 near the Temple Sowerby Bypass, Cumbria.
The A66, near Barnard Castle in County Durham, which runs between Scotch Corner and Penrith
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: 'Along with the ambulance service, North West Air Ambulance, and fire service, we've been conducting scene management to three vehicle passengers, and to ensure all the casualties were afforded the best medical attention that was required.
'In total there are 19 casualties from the incident that will be conveyed to local hospitals.
'We anticipate the road closure will be ongoing for some hours.
'Motorists are asked to be patient and seek alternative routes.'
