The number of working days lost to strike action has trebled under Gordon Brown, official figures revealed yesterday.
The embarrassing figures coincided with the second day of strike action over below-inflation pay rises by around 500,000 Unison members.
Further walk-outs are expected today, from thousands of workers at the Home Office, the Land Registry and coastguards.
Strike-days have trebled since Gordon Brown took over as Prime Minister
An average of 84,000 working days were lost to strikes every month in the first 11 months of Mr Brown's premiership, to May 2008.
The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, do not even include the estimated one million days lost this week.
The Tories calculate the number is almost three times as many as the days lost during Tony Blair's final year as Prime Minister.
Tory business spokesman Alan Duncan said: 'With the Labour Party now totally reliant on union funding to avoid bankruptcy, union barons clearly believe they have only to lead a wave of strikes to force our feeble Prime Minister into yet another U-turn.'
