Ormond St overdose baby dies

Poppy Davies, who was born three months prematurely, had been paralysed. Her parents, Carly Davies, 22, and David Daly, 21, from Grays, Essex, agreed to her life support machine being turned off on Sunday night.
Poppy was born in Norwich but transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital for a minor operation. Nurses were due to give her two to four millilitres of glucose but she received about 150ml.
Police are investigating the possibility that a junior nurse mistakenly gave the baby the overdose. They have questioned her and two more senior staff responsible for supervising her.
Officers are also examining medical equipment in case it malfunctioned.
Another possibility is that glucose may have built up because Poppy's body was unable to break down sugars.
After life support was turned off, Mr Daly told a friend: "I don't think we had any other choice. We were told it was unlikely Poppy would survive."
A hospital spokesman said: "We extend our deepest condolences to the child's family. The Trust continues to work with the police to establish the facts surrounding the child's death."
