'Outstanding' home wins Standard prize

A detached five-bedroom family house in Woking has taken first prize in this year's Evening Standard New Homes Awards.

Winners were announced this afternoon during a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel.

Judged by Evening Standard readers and industry experts, the awards cover nine categories and recognise excellence across the housing spectrum - from starter homes to large properties.

Warnborough House, the overall winner, is part of a small, gated estate backing on to a canal in the Surrey town.

Built by Millgate Homes, the £1.8 million home was judged "outstanding, with genuine wow factor" by our panel. It features a traditional-style exterior and a modern, open-plan interior designed for "relaxed family living and entertaining on a grand scale".

A "super-room" - a combined kitchen, dining and family area extending the width of the property - is the focus of the house and leads out to a garden designed by a Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner.

Among the category winners, Kingsway Square, formerly Battersea Polytechnic, took the prize for best new conversion. Best new luxury home was won by Willow House, a 7,000 sq ft trophy residence in Oxshott, Surrey, worth more than £3 million.
