Paddington rail workers vote for strike

Hundreds of rail guards and drivers at First Great Western have voted to strike, claiming that industrial relations had broken down.

They overwhelmingly backed industrial action, raising the threat of disruptions this month.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union executive will consider whether to call strikes over the dispute, including claims that managers are being used to drive and guard trains.

FGW carries more than 60,000 passengers a day into Paddington. Its services have been widely criticised. Watchdog London TravelWatch has called for it to lose its franchise. A passenger group will meet next week to discuss a boycott. FGW said disappointed by the vote.
