Freedom: Convicted child abuser Gary Glitter is expected to walk free within days from jail in Vietnam after serving half of a three-year sentence for sexual abuse of two young girls
Le Than Kinh said Glitter had been a popular and well-behaved prisoner, and he expected him to be freed soon.
Glitter, 62, was jailed for three years last March after being found guilty of sexually molesting the two girls, in the southern Vietnamese city of Vung Tau.
His lawyer said: "I am hopeful. I believe punishment has now been sufficient. My client has expressed a wish to return home."
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, 62, had been due for release in August next year but has already had time cut from his sentence in an earlier appeal.
On his release he is expected to fly back to Britain via Thailand or Hong Kong or Malaysia with a British police escort.
If he is returned to Britain he could face further charges under the Sex Offences Act 2003 which covers 'sex tourism' abroad.
Glitter left Britain after serving a four-month jail sentence imposed in November 1999 for possessing 4,000 photographs of children being abused.
He was also put on the sex offenders' register for seven years.
