Parachutist plunges to his death during display

A parachutist has died after suffering critical injuries at a public display, police said today.

The 28-year-old was hurt as he landed during a display at a falconry event at Chetwynd Park, Newport, Shropshire, yesterday.

A land ambulance and the County Air Ambulance attended the scene and the man was airlifted to the North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary, West Midlands Ambulance service said.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said the accident was being investigated with the assistance of the British Parachute Association.

"The police would like to hear from anyone who have video or photographic evidence of this incident," the spokesman said.
