Party Peaches in shoedown at club

PEACHES GELDOF narrowly missed being hit by a glass during a fracas at the Bungalow 8 club early today.

Police were called and questioned Ms Geldof, 20, who was claimed to have begun the dispute by throwing a shoe. An unnamed man who was alleged to have thrown the glass at her was also interviewed.

However Scotland Yard said no action would be taken following the trouble at the members-only club in the basement of St Martins Lane hotel.

According to onlookers, the row began after Ms Geldof, who had spent the day at Thorpe Park amusement park and the evening out on the town, allegedly threw a shoe into the crowd, hitting a woman.

Eyewitnesses said the woman's boyfriend went over to remonstrate with the daughter of Bob Geldof.

One said: "Peaches was having a really good night with her pals downstairs when she thought it would be funny to throw something into the crowd.

"Unfortunately whatever she threw hit a girl whose boyfriend came over and started abusing Peaches. It got really bad at one point and he started swearing at her and threatening her.

"The argument was broken up after a short while and the guy was allowed to stay. However, after some time the man returned to Ms Geldof's table, threw a drink at her and then the glass.''

Ms Geldof burst into tears. Clubbers said the man was chased by one of her friends, who grabbed him on the stairs outside the club.

The eyewitness added: "Everyone was shocked and Peaches was inconsolable because she knew that if the glass had hit her head, it could have caused a serious injury.

'She said that she wanted the police to be called so the guy was held until they arrived.

"She was taken up to the hotel lobby where she spoke to police about her attack. Nothing like this has happened to her before, which is why she was so scared. It basically erupted from nowhere." Police spent time in the hotel lobby talking to Ms Geldof and others but took no further action.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Officers were summoned to a club in St Martin's Lane at about 2.45am and spoke to a number of people concerning an allegation of assault.

"However, the allegation could not be substantiated so no further action will be taken.''

Earlier, Ms Geldof had met friends at Dover Street Market, attended a fashion world party at Somerset House and visited Madame Jojo's in Soho.

Then she went to Bungalow 8 to meet her older sister, Fifi.
