Peeping Tom crashes through ceiling while spying on naked girl

When Louise Hudd paid a visit to her local tanning salon, she expected complete privacy.

But as the 22-year-old closed her eyes and lay naked under the bright lights of her sun bed, she soon discovered she was not alone.

She heard a noise, looked out and saw part of the ceiling had fallen in - and a stranger's face was peeping at her through the gap.

Peeping tom: Stephen Strange and his victim Louise Hudd

A shocked Miss Hudd screamed at the man to go away but he didn't move, so she hurriedly pulled on her clothes and fled the booth.

The peeping tom, 42-year-old Stephen Strange, appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

Wearing a hooded top and jeans, he admitted one charge of voyeurism at the Consol Suncenter in Chippenham, Wiltshire. He will be sentenced on September 3.

Consol Suncenter, where Strange spied on his victim

Miss Hudd, a nail technician, had visited the coin- operated salon on a day off from work, paying around £7.50 for a 15-minute session before getting undressed in one of the five booths.

On her way in she noticed Strange sitting in the waiting area but thought he was simply waiting for a friend.

She said: "I saw him waiting there but I just assumed he was waiting for someone.

"I was actually on the phone when I walked in so I really didn't pay that much attention to him."

She was only two minutes into her session when she heard a sound above her.

It was then that one of the tiles fell away from the ceiling of the cubicle, revealing Strange's face.

Miss Hudd believes he was standing on top of the sun bed in the adjacent cubicle, allowing him to peer over the wall divide in the roof cavity.

She said: "I heard a noise so I lifted up the lid to have a look and then this piece of ceiling came falling down.

"He had just poked his head through the gap in the ceiling. I couldn't see any of his body so I assume he was standing on the sun bed. I screamed at him but he refused to move. I was totally naked and he watched as I pulled my clothes on.

"I was so flustered I put my top on back to front and didn't bother with my underwear - I just wanted to get out of there.

"Even as I walked out of the door he was still staring at me. It was awful."

Miss Hudd, who lives in Trowbridge with her parents, added: "Every time I close my eyes I see half the ceiling hanging off and his horrible, smirking face."

She was sent a bunch of flowers by Consol Suncenter after the incident in July 2005. She said she had only recently built up the courage to return to the salon - but only if her boyfriend sits in the waiting area to keep guard.

There are 53 Consol Suncenters across England and Wales, which are all unmanned and operated by coin machines.

A spokesman for the company said: "Because our centres are unmanned we take security very seriously.

"They are monitored 24 hours a day by a security company which can be on scene within minutes and there are panic buttons and sturdy locks in every cabin."
