'Phantom' stab victim wanted a career as a radio presenter

Stabbed graduate Sehrish Waqar Sheikh dreamed of being a radio presenter, her former boss said today.

Javed Sattar, the founder of Asian radio station Awaz (Voice), revealed Ms Waqar had worked her way up from being a runner to the host of a current affairs programme in less than a year.

The "driven" and "confident" 23-yearold had her sights set on a career in the media and had been volunteering at the Glasgow-based station after moving to Scotland with her parents in 2006.

Mr Sattar said: " We couldn ' t believe it was the same Sehrish when we heard the news. I'm deep in shock. She was such a lively and bubbly girl. She started volunteering at the station when she moved up with her family. She was very keen and wanted to learn everything, soon she was helping produce the shows and then she started presenting."

Ms Waqar was stabbed on Monday night by an alleged stalker wearing a Phantom of the Opera-style mask at St George's College in Plaistow, where she worked as a receptionist and teacher.

Her friend Kiran Asghar, 21, was also hurt but managed to raise the alarm.
